The bargaining teams for the Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA) and the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) today agreed to a renewal of the National Commercial Agreement (NCA), providing stability to the industry for another year.

The agreement provides an increase in pay and sets out steps toward modernizing and simplifying the agreement through industry-wide consultations that will take place over the next year.

A year ago, the ACA and ACTRA entered into an agreement after the Institute of Canadian Agencies (ICA) walked away from the agreement and negotiations.

“This agreement ensures that Canada’s advertisers and partner agencies can engage ACTRA members on terms that respect and recognize the value professional performers bring to the industry,” said Marie Kelly, ACTRA National Executive Director and Lead Negotiator. “This has been a challenging year for ACTRA members as the lockout by ICA agencies continues into its 13th month.”

If ratified, this will be a one-year agreement. During this time, the ACA and ACTRA will engage in a consultation process on a draft framework and simplified agreement. ACTRA has been working on a draft easy to access and implement agreement over the last year.

The new terms will now be put to the ACA Board and to ACTRA members for ratification. Negotiators for both sides will be recommending ratification.
